A person who contaminated candy with sleeping medication and gave them to youngsters at a youth camp in the region has admitted sexual offences against two children who were nine and ten years old.

The defendant was taken into custody after eight youngsters and a grown-up fell ill at the facility in the summer month.

The senior citizen, from Ruddington in Nottinghamshire, confessed to a multiple criminal counts when he appeared at the judicial center on the end of the week.

However, he denied one of the sexual offences he was accused of, which was involving a young boy.

Ruben was kept in jail before a additional proceeding on 28 November.

'Treat game'

The legal representative, handling the case, outlined the criminal behavior to the judicial body.

She explained his those affected were under-privileged children who were staying at a summer camp which he ran.

The man played a "treat game" with the youngsters, the legal counsel stated, in which he would enter the boys' rooms when they were preparing to sleep and tell them to eat sweets "as quickly as they can".

She stated to the judge Ruben had engaged in this activity with the children "repeatedly", and minors had earlier experienced illness the following morning.

She explained Ruben had been successful in rationalizing this repeatedly as the minors being "overwrought by enjoyment", until his stepchild had worries in summer 2025.

The prosecutor added: "In the summer" his stepchild had suspicions about the situation, justifiably.

"They chose" to examine in the individual's items."

The legal counsel stated objects including infant oil, ointment and medical needles were located, and his stepchild alerted the law enforcement about his suspicions.

She said the man continued to engage in the "candy game" with six children that evening - Saturday 26 July - and they were all ill the subsequent day.

"Authorities" had not responded by that stage," she added.

The regulatory agency, the Independent Office for Police Conduct, had stated that it was investigating Leicestershire Police's handling of the events.

The prosecutor said the children were unable to walk properly due to their sickness, so the family member called the law enforcement a second time.

She said the defendant then conducted the "treat game" in a room of five children.
